Hello and welcome to Seagull Studio, my on-line gallery. I am a retired theatre designer working now as a painter. I have recently moved from the Lake District where I did many watercolour paintings of the Cumbrian lakes and fells. I now work mostly in acrylics on canvas which I find more flexible as a medium.
I live in Lancashire and work from my narrowboat on the Leeds and Liverpool canal. Below is a photo of my workspace. It’s not normally so tidy.
I am especially interested in painting water and reflections, and all kinds of craft from canal boats, narrowboats and barges to sailing and fishing boats. I also like to paint wildlife, flowers and trees. I have just returned from a trip along the Llangollen canal on the boat and have brought back enough material to last me for months. I enjoy doing portraits too, in acrylics, watercolour or pencil.
You will see that some of my paintings are signed "M.J. Watts". This is because I did them before my marriage in 2006.
This is a painting of a boatyard close to where my boat is moored.
I am happy to take commissions for portraits of people, pets, your house or boat, and am willing to work from photographs as long as they are of good quality.
